A mediados de enero, el equipo de Ticket2Europe implementó una actividad muy interesante con los alumnos del colegio Valle Inclán en Pontevedra. El tema principal de la actividad fue la orientación: la tarea de los jóvenes consistía en navegar entre los puntos de control desconocidos con marcas ocultas colocadas en un área familiar con la ayuda de los mapas orientativos y las brújulas, con un límite de tiempo de una hora para encontrar los 7 puntos de control y ganar los 7 puntos. Antes de la actividad, los organizadores dieron las instrucciones y, por supuesto, presentaron las herramientas necesarias para la actividad: la voluntaria sueca Tilda, con experiencia en orientación, explicó el principio del uso de la brújula y la forma de leer el mapa orientativo. Después de la división en cuatro grupos de cuatro y con mapas de ruta individuales por equipo, se permitió a los participantes comenzar el desafío.
Y así comenzó: pasaron unos 8 minutos hasta que el primer grupo envió la primera foto desde su ubicación y en un momento los demás también lo hicieron. A pesar de tener diferentes rutas, el punto de control final fue el mismo para todos los equipos y, por lo tanto, los organizadores estaban esperando allí para felicitar al equipo ganador. Los primeros dos equipos llegaron casi simultáneamente al último punto, donde solo tenían que encontrar la única marca restante en el área: era solo una diferencia de segundos cuando el primer equipo finalmente alcanzó la marca y a toda velocidad llegó a la línea de meta, seguido por el segundo equipo.
Durante toda la actividad, los participantes tuvieron que usar su habilidad para enfocarse en un entorno que cambia rápidamente y al mismo tiempo usar sus habilidades cognitivas y espaciosas para navegar de una manera adecuada para encontrar todos los puntos de control ubicados en las diferentes partes del ciudad. Los premios principales se otorgaron al equipo ganador y los premios de participación a todo el grupo. Después de la actividad principal, se llevó a cabo la sesión informativa, donde los jóvenes compartieron sus opiniones sobre la parte de aprendizaje y el conocimiento obtenido, que les será útil en el futuro en un entorno natural más sofisticado de senderismo o trekking en el bosque, donde sea apropiado. El uso de la brújula puede tener un significado crucial.

In the middle of the January the team. of Ticket2Europe implemented a very interesting activity with the students of the local school of Valle Inclan in Pontevedra. The main topic of the activity was the orientation – the task of youngsters consisted of navigating themselves between the unknown checkpoints with a hidden marks placed in a familiar area with the help of the orientational maps and compasses, having a time boundary of a one hour for finding all 7 checkpoints and gaining therefore 7 winning points. Before the activity the organizers gave the instructions and of course introduced the tools, that were necessary for the activity – the swedish volunteer Tilda, experienced in orienteering, explained the principle of use of compass and the way of reading of the orientational map. Afterwards the division into a four groups of four and having individual route maps per team, the participants were let to start the challenge.
And so it began – it took about 8 minutes until the first group sent the first picture from their location and in a while the others did it as well. Despite having of different routes, the final checkpoint was the same for the all teams and therefore the organizers have been waiting there to congratulate the winner team. The first two teams arrived almost simultaneously to the last point, where they just had to find the only remaining mark in the area – it was just a seconds difference when the first team finally hit the mark and all of power ran to the finish line, followed by the second team.
During the whole activity the participants had to use their ability to focus in a fast changing environment and at the same time use their cognitive and spacious abilities in order to navigate themselves in a proper manner to find all the checkpoints situated in the different parts of the city. The main prizes were awarded to the winning team as well as participation prizes to the whole group. After the main activity, the debriefing session was held, where the youngsters shared their opinions regarding the learning part and an obtained knowledge, which will be useful for them in future in a more sophisticated natural environment of hiking or trekking in the forest, where proper use of the compass can have a crucial meaning.
